Detroit Red Wings won 62 games in a single sea...

This is the very first post here at Red and White Ice.  I’m very excited because this is really the first time I’ve ever written publicly and for people to read for themselves, so we will see how this goes.  Feel free to give feedback and comments, or even suggestions because I am new at this and it is going to be an ongoing, learning process for me.

Tonight the Red Wings travel to the desert of Arizona to face off against the Phoenix Coyotes, which could possibly be the last game the Wings play in the state of Arizona.  The Red Wings are coming off a tough loss Saturday night to the Edmonton Oilers, one of which I am still bitter about, and hopefully rebound from a sluggish and dismal first and second period of that game.  The Yotes however are coming off of an impressive 5-3 win against the Sharks on Saturday night.  Click the link below to read more about tonight’s showdown in the desert.

Probably one of my most favorite pictures.

After 3 games in Western Canada the Wings took away 5 of a possible 6 points.  Not bad considering the travel, but we all wish the good guys could have come away with that 6th point.  How did we only get one point you ask?  If you missed the game, this pretty much sums it up:

1st Period- Conklin decided to play blind folded, which I guess doesn’t instill much confidence into the guys playing in front.  Sam “I don’t know correct phonics” Gagner added onto his incredible consecutive points to 11, and Flip got a fluke goal to bring us within one, only to have one whipped passed the blind folded, or just plain bad, play of Conklin.  Oh yeah I almost forgot…2 MINUTES OF A 5 ON 3 POWER PLAY AND WE DON’T SCORE!

2nd Period- Babs decides to shake things up a bit.  Conks is out and Joey Mac is in.

After a less than crappy 1st period, and an average 2nd, Uncle Mike mixes up the 1st and 2nd Line by switching Zetterberg and Datsyuk.  It works great as Bertuzzi nets 2 and Drew Miller and his touch of gray hair add on a third to give us a 4-3 lead.  with about 35 seconds to we give up another goal in the last minute of a period.  Is it just me, or does it seem like we are notorious for getting scored on with just a little bit of time left in a period?  Anyways, OT, nothing.  Shootout, Bert gets the only one for us with a beauty and the Nuge nets the game winner for the Oilers…Crap.

Now back to hockey in the desert.  The previous two meetings between these two teams, went to shootouts.  At the Joe, Z pulled a pretty move that looked a bit like Forseberg and in the Desert Bertuzzi notched the only goal of the shootout.  Lets hope we can avoid the way to often shootout and get the two points in regulation tonight.  Since most of the fans in attendance tonight will be Wings fans, I hope the boys stomp the Coyotes into oblivion.

You can catch the game tonight at 7:00 Central on NBCSN.  Hopefully Edzo is sick or something…
